GRP Handrail Systems

GRP Handrail, are innovative solutions designed for durability, safety, and ease of installation. These handrails are made from glass reinforced plastic (GRP), superior to traditional metal and timber options, due to their high strength-to-weight ratio. The non-conductive nature of GRP, combined with its resistance to corrosion, makes these systems exceptionally cost-effective and low maintenance.

Our standard GRP handrails are a testament to this quality. Comprising four profiles, available in 6-metre lengths, they are easy to assemble. The installation involves drilling a 38mm hole for the knee rail tube in the box sections, with the handrail profile placed on top and the toe rail at the base.

GRP Handrail Systems from Engineered Composites are designed to meet relevant standards, ensuring compliance with BS4592:0 2006+A1 2012 for Industrial Flooring, Stairs, and Handrails for Heavy Duty (0.74kN/m), as well as BS1422-3 for Stairs, Stepladders, and Guardrails. This adherence to standards underscores our commitment to safety and quality in providing reliable, efficient handrail solutions.

What Are The Main Benefits?

GRP Standard Handrails offer a multitude of benefits for industrial and commercial applications. One of the main benefits is the fact that they are incredibly sturdy and robust, and practically maintenance-free. Within these types of environments, they are a much better choice than alternative options such as galvanised steel. Moreover, GRP handrails provide outstanding durability and are really easy to fabricate and install.

Is GRP The Best Material For Handrails?

Following on from the above frequently asked question, there aren’t very many better alternatives than GRP within commercial and industrial environments. As well as being durable and robust, GRP is likely the best option for handrails as the material is completely corrosion-resistant with a high strength-to-weight ratio. Unlike other alternatives, such as timber handrails, your GRP handrails will last for years to come with little effort or preservation.

What are the Applications of Fibreglass Handrails?

Fibreglass handrails are widely used across various industries due to their unique properties and benefits. Here are some of the primary applications:

  • Industrial Safety: They are commonly installed in industrial environments for worker safety, providing sturdy and reliable support around hazardous equipment, walkways, and production areas.
  • Corrosive Environments: Fibreglass is highly resistant to corrosion, making these handrails ideal for use in chemical plants, wastewater treatment facilities, and other settings where exposure to corrosive substances is common.
  • Outdoor Applications: Their resistance to weathering and UV radiation makes fibreglass handrails suitable for outdoor applications, such as bridges, walkways, and outdoor staircases, ensuring long-lasting performance with minimal maintenance.
  • Electrical Insulation: Fibreglass handrails are non-conductive, making them a safe choice for applications where electrical insulation is necessary, such as in power plants and around electrical equipment.
  • Marine Settings: The material's resistance to saltwater corrosion makes it suitable for docks, piers, and other marine applications, where durability and safety are paramount.
  • Architectural and Aesthetic Applications: Fibreglass handrails can be manufactured in various colours and designs, making them a versatile option for architectural applications where appearance is important, in addition to functionality.
  • Public Infrastructure: They are used in public areas, such as parks, public buildings, and pedestrian pathways, providing safe and durable handrail solutions that require minimal upkeep.

Are GRP Handrail Systems Maintenance Free?

GRP handrails systems are virtually maintenance-free. Because of the way they are manufactured and thanks to the fact that the materials are highly corrosion-resistant, they have a much longer lifespan than galvanised steel and timber handrails. They are kept in pristine condition with virtually no maintenance at all.
