EXCELLENT Based on 10 reviews Peter Nicholson20/04/2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The firm and staff were all excellent, the product was very well finished and all the advice given was very helpful, unfortunately it turned out to be of no use for my application, but this in no way reflects on the company that made an excellent product, I wanted a long tube to put an aerial inside it, fibreglass is normally transparent to radio signals, but something in the make up of the fibreglass tube was totally blocking the radio signals from getting out of the tube, the problem is possibly to do with the colouring agent, the tube I had was grey, darker colours can often cause problems for aerials, possibly if I'd chosen yellow, the other colour offered by the firm it may have worked well, but all this is my problem, not the company that made the tube, the tube is Very well made and nicely finished off, the staff could not have been more helpful, despite my problems this is a Highly Recommended firm. GRP offers several performance benefits compared to traditional materials. As a trusted GRP manufacturer, Engineered Composites supplies systems that are up to 70 percent lighter than steel, fully corrosion-resistant, and non-conductive. Unlike steel or aluminium, GRP requires no painting, galvanising, or anti-rust treatment, significantly reducing lifecycle costs. Its low thermal conductivity, Class 2 fire rating, and chemical resistance make GRP a more sustainable, long-lasting option for modern industrial and infrastructure applications.
Is GRP suitable for structural applications?
Yes. As a certified GRP manufacturer, Engineered Composites supplies structural GRP profiles compliant with BS EN 13706 E23 grade for load-bearing use. Our GRP beams, channels, and box sections provide excellent mechanical strength, stiffness, and impact resistance, comparable to traditional steel in many structural applications. GRP’s lightweight composition allows faster installation and reduced support requirements, making it ideal for walkways, access platforms, frameworks, and modular structures across industrial and commercial projects.
Does GRP meet UK building and fire safety regulations?
Absolutely. All GRP products supplied by Engineered Composites meet or exceed relevant UK and international standards. Our GRP gratings, profiles, and handrails are compliant with BS EN 13706 for structural performance and BS 476 Part 7 for Class 2 fire rating. As an established GRP manufacturer, we also ensure every system meets ISO 9001 quality management standards. These certifications guarantee strength, fire resistance, and compliance for use across public, industrial, and infrastructure environments.
Can GRP be cut or drilled on site?
Yes. GRP materials supplied by Engineered Composites can be easily cut or drilled on site using standard diamond-tipped tools. As a practical GRP manufacturer, we ensure all profiles, gratings, and box sections are designed for quick adaptation without specialist equipment. This flexibility allows contractors to make accurate adjustments during installation, saving time and reducing waste. Despite being lightweight, GRP maintains high strength and structural integrity even after modification, making it ideal for bespoke applications.
Is GRP recyclable or sustainable?
As a responsible GRP manufacturer, Engineered Composites is committed to sustainability throughout the supply chain. GRP products have a service life exceeding 50 years and require little to no maintenance, reducing carbon impact over time. Manufacturing GRP uses up to 75 percent less energy than steel, and many profiles can be repurposed or ground for reuse at end of life. Our materials support BREEAM and LEED sustainability targets, helping clients meet low-carbon construction goals.
What maintenance do GRP products require?
One of the key advantages of working with a quality GRP manufacturer like Engineered Composites is minimal maintenance. GRP does not rust, corrode, or require painting, even in harsh outdoor or industrial settings. Occasional cleaning with mild detergent keeps gratings, handrails, and profiles in optimal condition. With no need for chemical treatments or galvanising, GRP offers a cost-efficient, maintenance-free alternative to steel or timber, saving time and reducing whole-life operating costs.
Are GRP materials non-conductive and corrosion resistant?
Yes. Engineered Composites, a leading UK GRP manufacturer, supplies products that are both non-conductive and corrosion-resistant. GRP’s insulating properties make it safe for electrical, rail, and marine environments, while its chemical and UV resistance ensures long-term durability. Unlike steel, GRP will not rust, conduct electricity, or degrade when exposed to salt, water, or chemicals. This combination of safety and resilience makes GRP the preferred material for critical infrastructure and industrial applications.
What fire rating does GRP achieve?
Engineered Composites’ GRP products are manufactured using fire-retardant resin systems that meet Class 2 fire rating under BS 476 Part 7. As a trusted GRP manufacturer, we ensure all profiles, gratings, and handrails meet both UK and international fire safety standards. GRP components are self-extinguishing, emit low smoke, and maintain structural integrity under high temperatures, making them suitable for transport, utilities, and industrial environments where fire performance is essential.
Are GRP products available from stock in the UK?
Yes. As a leading GRP manufacturer and nationwide supplier, Engineered Composites holds extensive UK stock for immediate dispatch. Our standard products, including GRP gratings, box sections, handrails, and fencing systems, are available in multiple sizes, colours, and finishes. We also offer a fast turnaround for custom cut-to-size components and bespoke manufacturing. With next-day delivery across the UK, clients benefit from rapid availability, ensuring projects stay on schedule without delays.
How long do GRP products last?
GRP products supplied by Engineered Composites typically exceed 50 years of service life, even in harsh industrial or marine environments. As a long-established GRP manufacturer, we use advanced resins and E-glass fibre systems to ensure maximum durability and stability. GRP will not corrode, rot, or weaken over time, providing dependable performance with minimal maintenance. This extended lifespan makes it an ideal long-term investment for sustainable infrastructure, reducing replacement and upkeep costs throughout the asset’s life cycle.
